from the 9th to the 11th of March 2022, a conference on the topic of “Globalization and Growth Limits” will take place at the Evangelische Akademie Tutzing. The program is structured into the following four issues:

1. Global deglobalization? Economy and society in times of Corona
2. Contexts, dynamics and boundaries of globalization
3. Never binding boundaries? The role of planetary and anthropological boundaries
4. Global problems – nation state and supranational approaches

Another important part of the program is an open session with parallel working groups, where there will be the opportunity to present your own relevant work in short presentations and to discuss it in the group.

„Leadership in times of Corona” – new Discussion Paper published

Until spring 2020, crisis management was considered to be rather a marginal area of corporate leadership. With the crisis year 2020, certainly all companies have realized that leading through crises is a necessary basic competence for all managers and especially for corporate leaders. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has become clear that an existential crisis can affect any company – without being to blame itself and regardless of its business model. Therefore, it is of high entrepreneurial and economic, but also social and human importance to identify critical success factors for crisis management in companies and to develop or further develop recommended actions. The Corona crisis thus also offers a great opportunity for gaining relevant knowledge.

This research report identifies those success factors for leadership in crisis that are more closely associated with the supposedly “soft” aspects of leadership such as attitude, empathy or openness. The findings are based on interviews with top managers from a wide range of industries and company sizes.

Coopetition on Corporate Platforms

Dear readers,
a new project on “Coopetition on Corporate Platforms” has been successfully acquired. Headed by Prof. Dr. Ulrich Klüh, the project will address the research question of which new types of consortia have emerged in the attempt to make digital technologies such as blockchain and DLT usable for established companies.

The European Central Bank and its Role in a Sustainable Financial System – Problems and Opportunities

Dear readers,
the Global Ethic Institute’s research group on “Finance and Economics” will address the new strategy of the European Central Bank at a symposium on 13 October 2021 at the Goethe University in Frankfurt.
The conference will focus in particular on ECB’s role in the ecological transformation.

New Advisory Board backs the Center for Sustainable Economic and Corporate Policy (SECP) at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences

In an inaugural meeting on May 7, 2021, the Center for Sustainable Economic and Corporate Policy (SECP), located at the Darmstadt Business School of the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (h_da), constituted its new advisory board. Four years after its founding, the SECP completes its organizational structure. The members of the advisory board, all working on a voluntary basis, represent the broad spectrum of sustainability topics for which the SECP stands. They are supposed to voice the expectations of businesses, civil society, workers, and the public sector towards the SECP. The Board intends to give recommendations on setting priorities in research, teaching and third mission activities, as well as impulses for specific projects.

In alphabetical order, the following members form the new Advisory Council: Barbara Akdeniz, full-time city councilor of the City of Science Darmstadt and head of the department for social affairs, youth, family, women, housing and employment policy as well as the environment; Dr. Dirk Aßmann, Head of the Technical and Methods Department at the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH; Auditor Nicolette Behncke, Partner Sustainability Services at Pricewaterhouse Coopers GmbH; Dr. Christian Hey, Head of the Sustainability, Climate and Nature Conservation Department at the Hessian Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Agriculture and Consumer Protection; Benedikt Hoffmann, founder and CEO of AfriKairos GmbH and the Circular Economy Innovation Partnership Africa and Chairman of the Research Group on Ethical-Ecological Rating; Katrin Redmann, Global Innovation Portfolio Lead & University Relations, SAP University Relations and SAP Next-Gen, and Sandra Monja Scherer, Head of the Joint Works Council of Merck KGaA.

“In the first few years of its existence, the SECP has developed into an integral part of Darmstadt Business School, something we now want to build on,” said Ulrich Klüh, spokesman for the SECP’s board of directors. “We are extremely pleased that we can rely on the impulses and suggestions of such distinguished personalities in our further development”.
