For concrete changes in the world of work, blockchains have so far had little significance. Most of the technology’s promises have not been fulfilled, even if forms of good digital work can be found in the work worlds that have emerged. As a digitization myth, however, blockchains influence labor policy processes at the micro and macro levels. In the distribution struggle for digitization gains and in the defense against surveillance and control practices, it can make sense to conceive of the myth as an “instrument of upheaval,” since it opens up degrees of freedom and enables enlightenment upon enlightenment.

The SCEP has published two new articles on the topic of money and monetary policy. For the German Federal Agency for Civic Education, Moritz Hütten comments on cryptocurrencies and their relevance for the financial system (article in German). Janina Urban from the Netzwerk Plurale Ökonomik and Ulrich Klüh discuss in SCEP Discussion Paper No. 9 strategies for the European Central Bank to cope with the socio-ecological challenges of the present.

from the 9th to the 11th of March 2022, a conference on the topic of “Globalization and Growth Limits” will take place at the Evangelische Akademie Tutzing. The program is structured into the following four issues:

1. Global deglobalization? Economy and society in times of Corona
2. Contexts, dynamics and boundaries of globalization
3. Never binding boundaries? The role of planetary and anthropological boundaries
4. Global problems – nation state and supranational approaches

Another important part of the program is an open session with parallel working groups, where there will be the opportunity to present your own relevant work in short presentations and to discuss it in the group.
